Bio: In linguistics and phonetics, the term of phoneme refers to a unit of sound which uniquely distinguishes a single word in a specific language from another. The distinction may be as simple as a difference in the sound, such as between' he'her', or even as more advanced as between a' vowel' and an' imitation' sound. Nevertheless, the distinctions are made on the basis of several factors. These things include the position of the phonemes in the sound, and their frequency. Phonemes are also classified by their position relative to vowels, their length relative to a vowel's length, their length relative to the vowel's length and their meaning.

Phonemes are categorized based on how generally they occur in a sentence. A phonetic unit can either be a single sound, or even a bunch of sounds, or a combination of multiple sounds. The more frequently a phonemic unit occurs, the more accurately it can be recognized by various other languages. An example of a word with more than one phonemic unit would be the word' to be' in English. The word' to be' has 3 distinct units; the first has a brief sound which is represented by the letter /a/ (as in the letter th) and the next two are long. The last phonemic unit, the final phonemes, consist of a long sound, that are represented by the letter d, and a soft (as in the letter d) middle sound. For more information on the phonemic units of the English word' to be', please consult the dictionary below.

The sounds of words also can be grouped according to the frequency of theirs. Most words which share a phonemic unit are not so frequent, while the rarer ones are actually. One frequent example of a word with a high frequency is actually the word' chuck'. This word consists of 3 phonemes, all of which are short: a hard sound, a gentle sound, and an approximation of the hard sound. Each of these phonemes has a certain frequency, which you will learn about as you go along the learning process of yours. Furthermore, a word that contains two phonemes, both of which are pretty close together (as in their length), have a reasonably low frequency of occurrence. This is easier for you to notice when you're learning English, so make sure you try it out. http://www.simonedesignblog.com/
